Farrokh Alemi is the Acting Assistant Dean and Associate Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Science at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  His Ph.D., from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is in industrial engineering (system analysis).  His research has focused on quality improvement, technology assessment, program evaluation, and life style management.  He applies system concepts to health care issues.  He is the author of a book on health care policy and more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Duncan Neuhauser is the Charles Elton Blanchard, M.D. Professor of Health Management in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Medical School, Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio. His Ph.D., from the University of Chicago in 1971, is in business administration. He holds secondary appointments in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Organizational Behavior at his university. He was editor of Medical Care from 1983 to 1998. His research interests include clinical decision analysis, medical technology assessment, firms research, and the application of quality improvement methods to patient care. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 1983.

 Laura Benson is the Associate Director for Comparative Databases at the National Association of Childrens Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI).  Her background includes psychiatric/mental health nursing, nursing administration, utilization management, quality improvement, and performance measurement/benchmarking.   She has worked in both public and private hospital settings, as well as for DOD and CMS national health care initiatives related to utilization and quality.

Robert S. Dill, M.Ed., LPC

Robert Dill is the Regional Manager of Mind Body and Chronic Pain Programs in the Department of Integrative Medicine for Kaiser Permanente in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  His background includes a Master's degree in counseling from George Mason University, as well as certification in substance abuse counseling.  He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.  He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at George Mason University’s Graduate School of Education where his interests include development of patient education programs in online environments.  His work for Kaiser Permanente includes development of patient education programs and counseling patients with chronic illnesses and cancer.

Shirley M. Moore is Associate Dean for Research and Associate Professor of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University.  Over the past eight years, Dr. Moore has participated in three national demonstration projects to develop and test models of teaching quality improvement to nurses, medical students and managers. These projects include the Interdisciplinary Education Collaborative of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Geriatric Interdisciplinary Team Training (GITT) Project funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation, and the Collaborative Interdisciplinary Team Education Project funded by the Partnerships for Quality Education initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Her work has been recognized by her induction as a Fellow in the National Academies of Practice, the American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Moore also has a program of research on cardiovascular risk prevention and health promotion based on personal improvement methods.

Linda D. Norman, DSN, RN

Linda Norman is the Senior Associate Dean for Academics at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She received her doctorate in Nursing Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her research interests are in the area of quality improvement and program evaluation. She has authored several book chapters and journal articles in the area of incorporating quality improvement in health care professions education. She was appointed to the Health Resource Service Administration National Advisory Committee for Nursing Education and Practice.

 

Lisa Pawloski, Ph.D.

Dr. Lisa Pawloski is an Assistant Professor of nutrition and nutritional anthropologist in the College of Nursing and Health Science at George Mason University.  In 1999, she received a Ph.D. in nutritional anthropology from Indiana University.  Dr. Pawloski was a Fulbright Scholar in 1997; during her fellowship she conducted a study examining the nutritional status, growth, and development of adolescent girls from the Segou Region in Mali, West Africa.  In the summer of 2000, she built on that research by examining the growth and development of Malian adolescent immigrants living in Paris, France.  Dr. Pawloski is currently conducting research concerning the impact of a nutrition intervention program among Nicaraguan adolescent girls.  Dr. Pawloski has developed and is Coordinator of the Nutrition Certificate Program in the College of Nursing and Health Science at George Mason University.

Nancy Tinsley is an experienced health care administrator with experience in various aspects of health care leadership including program development and business planning. She has undergone specialized training in improvement strategies, redesign and change management, with an emphasis on creating efficiencies, empowering team members, successful implementation, and achievement of defined outcomes.  She has been responsible for hospitals' and clinics' regulatory requirements, budgetary planning, finance and reimbursement, managed care, clinical and utilization practices, compliance management, performance improvement strategies, and human resource standards. She is particularly skilled in aligning clinical, financial, and human resource requirements that successfully achieve organizational goals. Her numerous recognitions include the following organizations and awards: Beta Gamma Sigma, Honor Society for Business Excellence, Sigma Theta Tau, Nursing Honor Society, Superior Scholarship Award, and the Scholastic Achievement Award.
