Dean Browell, PhD

In the rapidly changing online world, you’re not likely to find a more potent ally than Dean Browell.  An active contemporary of the latest thinkers on social networking, Web 2.0 and online engagement, Dean consults on, presents and implements strategies within this “new media.”  And he’s not all talk.  Dean earned his doctorate in Education by specifically studying how we engage media online. Recently interviewed for his work in building communities online (with or without social media giants such as Facebook), Dean continues to advise and strategize with stalwart institutions in light of a rapidly changing landscape.

Dean also has an extensive and diverse background in public relations, from traditional media relations to crisis communications and including integration of brand messaging and the latest in industry trends of the citizen marketer.  For six years he stewarded the public communications of Ferrum College, providing strategy and executing award-winning tactics that resulted stories placed in national and regional publications.  In his agency work Dean has performed feats with clients as large as major city healthcare networks and as small as local non-profits.  In 2007 he was awarded southwest Virginia’s highest award for media relations by the region’s chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and in 2008 named one of the top 20 under 40 by the Blue Ridge Business Journal.

Dean’s clients have included Washington Medical Center, VCU Medical Center, West Chester Medical Center, weplay.com, Rex UNC Health Care, Virginia Blood Services, Richmond Diocese, Virginia State Police and more.
