Case Game

This is a simulated game, a component of the Middleboro Case.  I am assuming that you have been assigned to a group within the case.  If not, please come and see me.  In the Middleboro case, you are in the process of creating a business plan for one of the units.  During this simulation, your task is to provide the business unit with an IT package that serves their need.  You are to assume the role of one of the major industry participants (Allscripts, Kaiser Permanente, McKesson, and Microsoft).  Your task is to approach the businesses within the case and assess their need for an electronic health record using standardized needs assessment procedures and using criteria provided by HIMSS Analytics.  For details of needs assessment, see the lecture on this topic.  You are then to describe a system that would meet the needs of the business.  Include a price for the system and the various optional features.  Finally, complete a return on investment calculation for the IT system that you have proposed using procedures covered in the course.

Once you have completed a needs assessment, you are to present a video presentation of why the business should select you as the vendor of choice.  The presentation should have the following exact six narrated slides and be under 10 minutes. 
  1. Company name, student team names
  2. A short video on customer's chief complaints that would be addressed by the IT system.  Search You Tube for snippets of videos that address the main issue addressed by your system.  Make sure that the story is told from the patient's perspective in the patient's voice.  For examples see:  Medication error complaint►   Hospital infection►  Reduce wait time►
  3. A specification of systems and subsystems included in the offer.
  4. A weighted set of criteria used to assess the preferences of the business regarding different features within the system.
  5. A return on investment calculation showing level 1, level 2 and level 3 benefits, cost of the IT, and return on investment
  6. A detailed plan to maximize meaningful use incentives.

The presentation should be narrated and posted to You Tube.  Once posted, each business is expected to make a selection and the vendor with the highest market share would be considered the winner of the case game.
